Gum care and initial treatment

Before a crown, bridge or implant, the mouth must be healthy and stable. That is the purpose of initial treatment.

Gum disease

When gum inflammation persists, it can spread to the bone that supports the teeth: this is periodontitis. The bone is gradually lost, the gums recede and the teeth eventually become loose.

Warning signs: bleeding when brushing, swollen or red gums, persistent bad breath, teeth that look longer, teeth that are loose or drifting. Smoking and poorly controlled diabetes make the disease worse.

Treatment starts with a deep cleaning of the roots below the gum line (scaling and root planing), together with guidance on home care. The disease stabilises with regular maintenance, at the practice and at home.

Occlusal adjustment

When upper and lower teeth meet unevenly, some of them bear excessive forces. Occlusal adjustment means very slightly reshaping certain contact points to spread these forces. It is done after analysing your bite.

Temporary restorations

During treatment, a temporary tooth protects the prepared tooth, holds the space and lets you eat and smile normally. It is also used to check shape and shade before the final restoration.
